Seller Code of Ethics

All Kennels, Dog Breeders (referred to as "Sellers") listing a dog (referred to as "pet") for sale or for adoption are required to agree to and abide by the following Code of Ethics and to be bound by its standard of behavior. Documented proof of failure to comply will result in removal from PetPay.

ACCEPTANCE TO THE CODE OF ETHICS

AGREEMENT BETWEEN SELLER AND PetPay, Inc. The services are offered to you the Seller (referred to as "I" hereinafter) by PetPay, Inc., (referred to as "PetPay") on the condition that you accept the Code of Ethics contained on this page.

I will maintain a safe, clean and sanitary facility for all pets you offer for sale or for stud service. (i.e. stud dogs, bitches, adult dogs for sale and puppies for sale).

I will provide relevant information on the characteristics and physical attributes of the breed to interested individuals.

I will breed only for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed. I will conscientiously plan each litter of pets for sale by carefully selecting a stud (male) and bitch (female) to be mated based on their pedigrees, conformation and temperament.

I will be knowledgeable about inherited health problems in my breed.

I will not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any of my pets for sale.

I will not breed any male or female pets for sale until they are both physically and mentally mature enough to breed. I will not continue to breed any male or female pets for sale beyond the appropriate age for the breed.

I will comply with all federal, state or provincial and local government laws and regulations concerning the keeping of pets (dogs) that I breed.

If pets offered for sale to persons inquiring through the PetPay directory are to be registered, they will be registered only with publically recognized-organized clubs (such as for dogs the American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club) or other registries with equivalent standards and requirements for that particular pet breed. If such pets are not to be registered, I will inform the buyer of that fact in writing.

If I breed dogs I will refrain from releasing any puppy until until it is at least seven (7) weeks old, or eight (8) weeks old if the puppy is to be shipped. If you breed any other pet you must agree to not release the pets until they are both physically and mentally mature enough.

I will show discrimination in the sale of my pets and be concerned with the type of homes in which they are placed. I will make buyers aware of their responsibilities as pet owners. I will not sell or donate pets to commercial pet wholesalers, dealers, brokers, retailers, pet shops or any other person or organization, for resale or "give-away" to the public. I will not supply pets for charity raffles or auctions.

I will keep accurate records and retain those records for a minimum of five years. These records will include: stud service contracts, pedigrees, all litters of pets for sale, and all pets sold.

I am not a broker, dealer or wholesaler. I will not offer pets for sale that I have acquired from others. I will not sell pets to pet shops or other retailers.

At the time of sale, I will provide the buyer with:

  1. A properly executed Registration Certificate together with full written disclosure of the name of the Registry and its standards and requirements (or if the pet is not to be registered, a written statement to that effect). Registration materials may be withheld if a written statement is provided to the new owner of when, and under what conditions, they will be provided (e.g. until the time of spay or neuter by the new owner as verified by a veterinarian, or if a written certification identifying the exact date of birth, and the registration numbers of the mother and father (Sire and Dam) of the pet is provided instead).
  2. Health record including a diet, inoculation and parasite control record, and health guarantee.
  3. Basic diet and care information.
  4. Time frame during which the pet may be examined by a licensed veterinarian, at the buyer's expense, and, upon written recommendation of the veterinarian for specific reasons, the pet may be retuned to the seller for a full refund of all money paid or a replacement pet.

I will not deliberately degrade any pet fancier, their pets, or their kennel.

I agree to be a resource for buyers of the pets of which I have sold for the life of the pet.
